SYN Shop is a hackerspace serving the Las Vegas Valley in Nevada.
It is a space for sharing, creation, collaboration, research, development, mentoring, and of course, learning.

Our motto is: "Let's make stuff awesome!"

Tue, Dec 1, 7:00 PM PST

Note due to COVID-19, all visitors to SYN Shop are required to wear a face mask, maintain social distancing, as well as clean and disinfect all tools, equipment, and work surfaces used.

We want an excuse to practice our lock picking, so what better way then to schedule a themed open night that focuses on locksport. This is a regular open night at SYN Shop so there will be no formal class. However, if you want to work on your lock picking, please bring your lock pick set/practice locks/or other physical security type things to play with. We do have some practice locks and picks which people can use if they do not have their own.

Locksport is the sport or recreation of defeating locking systems. Its enthusiasts learn a variety of skills including lock picking, lock bumping, and a variety of other skills traditionally known only to locksmiths and other security professionals. Locksport followers enjoy the challenge and excitement of learning to defeat all forms of locks, and often gather together in sport groups to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and participate in a variety of recreational activities and contests. Locksport is often practiced at computer security events such as DEFCON.

Learning about how locks operate also goes towards teaching the importance of physical security.

Never pick or manipulate with the aim of opening any lock that does not belong to you, unless you have been granted explicit permission by the lock's rightful owner.

Never pick a lock that is in use. The practice of lock picking can break functioning locks. Only use practice locks.

This is our Monthly Board Meeting where the board conducts it's normal business. All members are encouraged join and provide input into the running of the space.

Sun, Dec 6, 2:00 PM PST

This is a free class for paying SYN Shop members only. Due to space and time constraints we can only accommodate up to four people at a time around the ShopBot.

Looking to get started in the wonderful worlds of CNC routing? Looking to learn more about the ShopBot so you can understand more about it, other than it being a tool that somehow you put plywood into and furniture comes out. This is an introduction to running the ShopBot, the CNC sheet router, we have at SYN Shop.

This will include the steps you need to take in getting the ShopBot up and running, such as the pre-flight checks, powering on the machine, getting it setup to start a job, importing a file and cutting it, and finally cleaning up after yourself.
